Project description:

Splitting methods for infinite-dimensional port-Hamiltonian systems are developed and their convergence properties are investigated. Here, the potential of splitting port-Hamiltonian systems into simpler port-Hamiltonian subsystems is exploited while the port-Hamiltonian structure is preserved. This project thus forms a solid analytical basis for numerical methods, paves the way for applications, and also establishes the (unique) solvability of the systems under consideration. One application focus is on port-Hamiltonian differential equations with delay.
